More Options, Same Standards: A Seed Trial We’re Running
Lately, we’ve been thinking about ways to give people a little more cost flexibility with what they’re feeding—without losing what actually makes it work.
So we brought in a few different blends to try.
What We’re Testing (Side-by-Side)
Here’s a simple way to look at it—each new option next to what it’s closest to in our store today:
Premium Classic Wildbird - Contains sunflower, safflower, peanut pieces, red millet, white millet and flavoring
(Similar to our Backyard Blend - contains black oil sunflower, striped sunflower, sunflower chips, peanut splits, & white millet)
Shell-Free Fruit & Nut - Contains sunflower chips, peanut pieces, chopped tree nuts, cherries, raisins, cranberries and fruit flavoring
(Similar to our woodpecker mix - contains peanut splits, sunflower chips, suet nuggets, raisins, cranberries, & shelled pumpkin seeds)
Phoenix Blend - Contains sunflower, millet, safflower, peanuts, wheat and hot pepper extract
(Similar to our spicy blend but not shell free - contains sunflower chips, peanut splits, tree nuts & hot pepper extract)
Why These Cost Less
These blends use a different mix of ingredients than our custom blends.
That means:
a lower cost per bag
more variety in what’s included
and sometimes a little more that ends up on the ground
For some people, that tradeoff makes sense. For others, maybe not.

What’s Staying the Same
Even with these new options, a few things aren’t changing.
The seed is still:
delivered fresh multiple times per week
not sitting in warehouses or stores for long periods
and blended to actually attract birds
So while these are more budget-friendly, they’re still a step above what you’ll typically find at big box stores.
